Sewing a Vintage-style Chemise/Slip

Do you know how hard it is to find pretty undergarments made from natural fibers? Especially if you want them to have a vintage “history-bounding” edge? Realising I was never going to find them in the shops, I figured I’d have to start making my own

Do you know how hard it is to find pretty undergarments made from natural fibers? Especially if you want them to have a vintage “history-bounding” edge? Realising I was never going to find them in the shops, I figured I’d have to start making my own (in between other sewing projects).

My first underwear project is a simple cotton chemise, taking in a few different eras’ inspirations:

My pattern was drafted from and old Butterick camisole pattern that I had in my stash (Butterick 3031)

Butterick 3031 Version C

Mercerised cotton fabric, cambric laces and satin ribbons mostly sourced from Spotlight, and then apart from the copious amount of hand-sewing, french seams finished off the main seams.
